Wp vs ios vs android

If you use the Photos app in Android, then you can automatically back up all your photos and videos. You can also back up unlimited photos and videos in full resolution with Google Photos if you own a Google-branded Pixel phone. Apple is still lagging when it comes to cloud storage and automatic backups. Google Drive offers 15GB for free and has cross-platform support. Google Assistant has an extra layer. The addition of Siri Shortcuts in iOS 12, which allows you to set up voice commands to trigger groups of automated tasks, is a big step in the right direction and Siri is also beginning to make more suggestions based on your iPhone usage.

For now, however, Google Assistant can do more and seems to be improving at a much faster rate. Specific manufacturers like Samsung have taken extra efforts to beef up security for the enterprise market. But the slovenly nature of updates on many Android devices can seriously delay important security patches. Speedy updates are now more important than ever because security breaches are becoming more serious. Apple is already firmly entrenched in corporate America and has also worked on improved security for general consumers, most notably with Touch ID and FaceID in the iPhone X and later.

The tight oversight that Apple has on apps and the ability to push updates out to more devices, more quickly, gives it a definitive edge over Android. The company also encrypts data in iMessage and its other apps. Apple prioritizes user privacy, so you can feel safe knowing your personal data is not stored or read by Apple. It is all encrypted, too. Meanwhile, Android encrypts some data, but your privacy is less protected. Google mines your data for information that it can use to sell better ads and market products to you.

Your data is also stored and read to provide you with a better A. Apple even went to war with the FBI to guarantee your right to encryption. If you care about your privacy and security, go with an iPhone. Many Android OEMs original equipment manufacturers also offer a way to unlock the bootloader, which determines how the operating system loads up on your device. Apple is completely opposed to this kind of thing.

Jailbreaking is an option for iOS, which lets you download and install apps from outside the App Store and bypass some other limitations. The average iPad or iPhone owner spends more money on more things than the average Android device owner, and Apple has built up a great ecosystem of peripherals for its phones and tablets. This often means you have to splash out on an overpriced Apple adapter.

Another mark against Apple here relates to its abandonment of the standard 3. Of course, now some Android phones are axing the headphone jack in favor of USB-C audio, so this may not be a difference for much longer. Since Android phones are produced by many different manufacturers, product ecosystems vary. Samsung has a great ecosystem, for example, and Android phones have support from Home, Chromecast, and Android Wear.

Overall, taking all available accessories into account, you have more choice with an iPhone, so iOS takes the win here, but with caveats. Ultimately, different categories will be important to different people, so you should pay attention to the ones that count for you and make your decision based on that. If security and privacy are an important factor, then the iPhone is the obvious choice. If battery life tops your list and you want to be able to customize your phone, then choose Android. Both Android and iOS are mature, feature-packed platforms with far more similarities than differences, and we can heartily recommend either.

iPhone vs. Android: Which Is Better for You?

Everyone knows the iPhone at this point, its brand awareness now surpassing even the company name of Apple according to some studies, so it makes sense to play up that angle on the Touch which is more a casual device to begin with. The biggest advantage for Apple with an iPhone or iPod Touch demographic wise is the more mature market age-wise. There are plenty of adults who love gaming who won't mind having some decent games on their phone or music player but would never consider a separate portable game console, or at least carry one around with them.

I consider myself a gamer and own a , an old gamegube and ancient gameboy. I even participate in clans for some games but I have little desire to carry around a single purpose gaming device along with my phone, not to mention carting extra carts and game discs around to boot. As young gamers grow up a significant number will game less but a significant number, myself included, would otherwise forgo portable gaming if it wasn't available on a device which I have to carry like a phone.

Apple is lowering the threshold for these kinds of users by giving them gaming in a nice neat package with easy accessibility and the ability to carry a huge number of games around as easily as carry no games. Edit- I would just like to add that there likely will always be a market for discreet portable gaming devices just like there will likely be music only portable devices but the same way the iPhone was borne out of a stark realization by Apple the mobile phone market was going to erode the iPod market out from under them the iPhone and future iterations can potentially erode the gaming market out from under Sony and Nintendo.

You want to be the maker of the one device people carry as a priority. Personal anecdote: I want as few gizmos in my life as possible That's a factor that Nintendo and Sony are going to have to contend with and tackle over the next few years. I don't know how many people feel this way, but I wonder if it will be a growing number. Totally agree, that's why I think it's odd lookmark thinks it's a stealth game console when Apple is clearly marketing is as a game machine among other things.

An interesting little article on Ars on the experience and frustrations of being a small iPhone game developer. Apple really needs to introduce much better, more comprehensive filtering tools ASAP.

The research

I'd also like to see more detailed "picks" by a neutral group at Apple for each major game category, on say a weekly or twice-a-month basis. Here is an interesting article on Apple vs. Given Apple's notorious reputation of being closed, it is surprising.

Not too surprising, though at least to me. When Apple is looking for a strategic advantage - e. Especially in comparison to the often tightly controlled environments of mobile platforms and console gaming. I suspect iPhone developers for apps other than games - esp apps that offer Apple direct competition to their "core" apps - wouldn't offer so rosy a picture. But then again the level of expectations many of the most outspoken ones being Mac developers are very different.

Not much new to add. So it looks like the ipod touch 2. I'm guessing most devs will go for the lowest common denominator strategy, and build for the MHz models. I've already seen a few apps and games out there that say they won't run on a first-generation Touch, and I've wondered what was up.

That article explains it nicely. Next year things are really going to change in the mobile space - and advance, 3D-graphics-wise - with NVidia's Tegra. Even though I think the iPhone is some awesome kit and all-in-one portable devices work for most folks, I simply just like a phone as a phone, a computer as a computer, a MP3 player as a MP3 player and a gaming system as a gaming system. But my usage varies depending on activity. Currently I prefer the DS as a mobile game system, lots of new and old content, etc.

Here's an article from Dean Takahashi: But as kids reared on Nintendo DS and GBA grow up and get cell phones, they might decide that they always take their phones when they leave the home while they don't always take the DS on the go. I do most of my gaming on the console.

In some long flights, it might have been nice to play games but the casual games offered by in-flight entertainment IFE systems have been enough. I haven't gotten the iPhone because of the contract and I've stayed with the Nano instead of buying the Touch because of form factor. Or maybe there's some console-handheld integration which would enhance the experience.

Originally posted by wco Console-handheld integration sounds like a good idea in theory but I have a hard time seeing how it would really work well in practice. I have no idea how good these games will end up being - particularly Konami's - but I think it's interesting that EA and Konami are bringing these long-established franchises to Apple's platform. I've been amazed that Apple uses every chance it gets to tell people the iPhone is a gaming platform and is better than the DS. You think they would let Nintendo be lazy and ignore them but they seem to be itching for a fight.

I kinda like it.
